NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF CRIMINOLOGY AND FORENSIC SCIENCE

Ministry of Home Affairs

I welcome you to the website of the Institute. The Institute is now in the thirty fifth year of service to the nation. It has four objectives namely, imparting Teaching, Training, Research and Consultancy in the field of Criminology and Forensic Science, By now more than  30,000 officers drawn from Judiciary, Police, Correctional Services,  Prosecution, Medical , Defense and Public Sector Undertakings as well as from State and Central forensic Science Laboratories have undergone training in the Institute.

Since year 2004, the Institute has started M.A./M.Sc courses in Criminology & forensic Science through affiliation to the  GGS IP University, Delhi. The first batch has just passed out in June, 2006. As there is acute shortage of Criminologists as well as Forensic Scientists in the country, these young minds are in great demand. The Institute also runs Foundation Course for the newly recruited Forensic Scientists of different FSLs in the country. During the year 2005, the Institute had the privilege of training 16 young Forensic Scientists for different Laboratories of Republic of Sudan.

The Institute offers referral facilities in the area of Forensic Ballistics, Forensic Chemistry and Toxicology, Forensic Photography, Forensic Document Examination and Forensic Biology. Recently we have setup our DNA and Voice Identification Laboratories. Efforts are also on, to set up a Computer Forensic facility as well

At this Institute, it is our goal to impart the course participants a strong theoretical, practical and experimental foundation and thereby gain specialized skills that would empower them to meet the challenging situations. On successful completion of Courses the Students and freshly inducted forensic Scientists will develop sound knowledge base and confidence to interact with the people who matter in the field and handle their assignments with greater confidence.
Your suggestions for improving it are welcome.
